Not long ago a gas station attendent filled up my old girl with diesel instead of gasoline. Long story short, I now have a new tank, pump, filter, injectors.
I decided to try some cheap injectors and bought a set of 4 hole injectors.
Well, the old girl doesn't like them at all. It runs pretty smooth, but it idles like it has a cam in it, and if feels like it's flooding when I accelerate.
I've decided to go back to OEM or OEM style one hole injectors.
Honestly, you could just send your original OEM injectors (if you still have them) to a local injector shop to be remanufactured - might be the very best thing you could ask for... . Otherwise, I would just order from rock auto.. They offer a set SMP that evidently has good feed back - it has the little heart next to it and a reasonable price.. Get orings while your at it. I just checked NAPA and set of 6 Echlin Injectors is like $679 bucks! Gracious... The '90 4.0 may be picky about injectors, idk.. Hopefully someone with more experience with your year model can chime in and help.
WAIT!!! - my brain just kicked in.. Cruisers tips! You can trust what he says here.
You'll read that brand and country of origin matter. The 4 hole is evidently a recommended solution for the Renix 4.0.
Comments on that page reference an updated Bosch part number.... Bosch P/N 62682
That injector brand new is just under $41 each from rockauto..
I got a suggestion to just rebuild the old injectors. The thought never crossed my mind.
The old girl was running perfect before the diesel escapade, and I'd bet a dozen donuts that rebuilding the originals will get me right back to where I was.
Thanks for the Cruiser54 reference. That guy is legendary.

Let us know how it goes getting originals rebuilt. Cruiser54 certainly left us a wealth of hard earned knowledge.
So, since the injectors are on my kitchen table takin up space, I decided to go ahead and try to pull out the old filters from the injectors while I wait for the rebuild kit to arrive.
I screwed a screw (actually a tapcon) into one of them, then held the injector in my hand and let an adjustable wrench hang on the screw head.
Two taps on the adjustable wrench, and the filter popped right out. Took less than 30 seconds.
I blew in the filter, and it was fine.
So, I did the other 5 the same way. 5 minutes tops for all of them.
But here's where it gets interesting.
I couldn't blow through two of the filters. And when I sucked on them, I got a tongue full of red dust, which I assume came from the tank.
Once I did that, then even those two were easy to blow through.
So many years I've avoided messing with injectors.
So, now it's sit back and wait for the rebuild kit to arrive, but to be honest, I doubt I even need it.
I also put 12V to each of the contacts, and got a nice solid click out of every one.
The first time I pulled injectors, I wasn't sure what to expect. Now, I'd bet I can do the entire job from start to finish in less than an hour.
I always put a touch of dialectric grease on all of the o-rings and connector contacts and they slip right in.
The oem injectors can rust through over time. The cheap knock-offs from eBay are known to be garbage. A set of Bosch refurbished 4-hole injectors are what I prefer to install. I would also look at the injector wiring and make sure they didn't get them swapped between cylinders.
Wire colors for each cylinder should be:
1 - Light Blue
2 - Light Green
3 - Tan
4 - Yellow
5 - White
6 - Brown
