I am pretty sure you are talking about the check valve. If that is what you are reffering to than I am almost positive you have to replace the whole pump assembly on the 00/01 not just the pump. I am facing the same issue. Unfortunately like mentioned by jomps the only reliable pump I have heard of using is oem or bosch which is going to cost you about $320.

I bought a complete Bosch assembly from Amazon for $200, and yes I would definitely recommend replacing the entire unit while you're in there. Also, be aware that the lock ring is plastic and I tore mine up trying to remove it and ended up having to dremel it off and buy a replacement. Thankfully the replacement is not expensive, but it was a major nuisance. There is a special tool you can buy to get it off and I recommend you either get that in advance or get a new lock ring in advance.

If your referring to the pressure reulator on the fuel pump this and the fuel filter are one unit you can replace this , it is a seperate unit than the fuel pump on 1997 and later jeep's.On 1996 this is one whole unit and has to be replace all together. good luck.

I am trying to get this straight for myself also. So lets assume that the problem he is having is that it is difficult to start after sitting (the fuel pressure "check valve" is not holding the pressure in the line after sitting with the engine off). Is the "check valve" that I am referring to the same thing as the pressure regulator that is only included in the whole replacement assembly. Or is it a part of the actual pump.

That's what it boiled down to for me, and my decision was to just replace the whole deal. It's a fact that you can take the assembly apart (at least on some later models, not sure about earlier ones) to replace the o-ring and fix the issue of long starts due to the pump losing its prime. I've seen a thread on a different forum that had pictures of the o-ring replacement, I'll see if I can dig it up.
