Alright boys I have a 98 xj sport with a 4.0 I6. Well yesterday without warning it through a rod through the block. It only has a 133,000 on it and its dead. Where is a good place to get a good priced motor? I don't want a junkyard motor. I want a decent warranty. I also am having it installed as I don't have the know how to do a job this big so money is an issue. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

Well, i just went through this, with my 2000. I decided to just have mine rebuilt though.

Had i been able to afford it, i was going to go with a Jasper. The way my mechanic explained it, the Jasper is the best you can get when replacing a motor, since Chrysler no longer makes a long block for our trucks. Three year warranty, i believe.

I think just for the Jasper motor, my mechanic said it was $2800 or $2900, not including labor or fluids.

Good luck!

This site will give an idea what a short block would cost from the dealer. MSRP $2,625/Discount $1,905. Click 'Add to Cart' to see what the bottom line is. I don't know if these are new short blocks or not. There doesn't seem to be a core charge like rebuilts would be so I think these are new.

Last time I checked Jasper they wanted around $2,600 + for a rebuilt long block.
