Replaced steering column, now key wont come out

Exactly what the title says i finished up replacing my steering column today and now my key wont go back to the lock position so i can get it out. Any ideas why this might be ?

On the top left side of the column, just on the inside of the dash there is a metal ball connector that hooks into the transmission shifter. Its that long black cable that is kinda hard to move around. The piece of metal that plugs into, it needs to come down a little iirc. If not, it goes in. That is what will get your key out.
I had the same issue, that fixed it. I pulled mine too far out and the metal rod came all the way out with its spring, but I didn't bother hooking that stuff in. Too much of a pain in the a$$.
