I'm not seeing washers on the bottom. Are they welded on? Must have broke off....

 

There should be a small ridge on both shafts the bottom washer sits on.

 

Your bushings look fine. Your just missing the bottom washers.

Maybe the previous owner was taking jumps and broke them....

 

That's fine but he could have at least fix them. lol

So get those washers and your good to go on the links you have.

It doesn't even look like there is the large flange piece under the bottom rubber piece. It's just all messed up so I'll just buy new ones hahaha

 

I was thinking that the bushings got pushed down and were covering the flanges. Yep. Time for new ones. Still thinking about adjustable ones for when/if you do a lift?

 

Yeah those bushings are pushed down and don't want to move easily when I pushed on them. I haven't found ones that can be used with factory suspension, then adjusted to use with a 3" lift..... Or even a 2"

I was wondering about that. I haven't looked in a good while but didn't see any at that time.

 

I feel like it should be as easy as some threaded steel that can be lengthend or shortened with a few twists.....

Precisely. I may buy a cheap pair to play with, cut them, and use a female threaded piece and thread the shafts in on each end (after they're threaded) then they can be lengthend or shortened as needed. Just wonder about strength.......

 

I'd say as long as there is enough material inside the female sleeve you should be good. Kind of like a turn buckle.

JKS Manufacturing makes nice heavy duty adjustable quick disconnect sway bar links but the adjustment range is limited to around 1.5 inch. For an XJ you can get them in lift ranges of 0 to 1.5" lift, 2 to 3.5" lift and 4 to 6" lift. I am not sure about cutting and welding additional length into a stock link as it will be more prone to bending. Stock type replacements for now will make your highway handling so much better. For the future, some lift kits include quick disconnect sway bar links. The Old Man Emu suspension kit I recently ordered from DPG Off-Road includes the JKS quick disconnects. Very nice hardware.
