Renix tps having a weird issue and finding absolutely no info about this issue.
I have a 1989 jeep xj 4.0 aw4 np231. My tps is of course the 2 plug tps. With the square and flat connectors. Well my flat(engine side) connector everything is perfect. On the square(trans side) im getting some odd readings. Firstly. I back probe my meter to the ground wire. And to input wire. Supposed to get reading. Getting nothing. Probe ground on sensor and positive on battery terminal I read voltage.
probe sensor positive and probe battery terminal ground I get 4.87 v. Same if I probe output voltage. But when I’m probing ground and output/input I get no readings. Really needing help. She’s shifting way too soon. Hitting OD at around 35 floored.
figured out the issue. My renix xj has a tcm from a 1993 xj. Which obviously is a small bit different. Found a pin out for each tcm. And was able to make the 93 tcm work appropriately. Have to take the tps input for the trans connector which is grey with black strip and piggy back it to the engine side of tps on the yellow-green wire. Reason being is that the renix tps the trans side of it works opposite of any other Cherokee version. As you give it throttle the voltage drops. Where the h/o xj it goes up as you give it voltage. Thought I’d let everyone know. Cause I know renix tcms are getting rather hard to find these days so you can indeed make a newer h/o tcm work if you aren’t afraid of some wiring.

Yup, unlike the Renix which wants 5->0 volts, the newer TCM wants the same 0->5 volt range as the engine computer. Can't go too new on the TCM though, as the older trans won't trigger a 98 TCM. Also a change in the diagnostic lines from serial to obd in 96?
The dual output TPS is actually cheaper and easier to find that the single output TPS for the manual.
