Or are you talking you want to be able to remove, then reinstall later and have it still work? If that's the case, make a run to Autozone and get some male/female bullet connectors.

You cut it, maybe put a wire not on the end of it, and wrap it in electrical tape. Where you cut it, however, is up to you. I'd trace it back as far as possible.

yeah they unplug like what wicked said...
then you have to cut the hinge pin with a dremel tool or something on the door and use a bolt as the pin (i think 5/16 will work)...
