Okay, next question on this 1993 Jeep Cherokee Laredo I'm fixing is; can I remove the door lock? Somebody broke off a piece of wire inside the door lock where the key goes. Looks like a piece of coat hangar. Probably somebody who was told, "use a coat hangar" when they locked their key inside. "It seems stuck in there and I can't grab it thru the key slot. Is there a way to take this out, and dismantle it on the bench and get the stuck wire out?
Thanks for your help.

X2 that it might be damaged but if you want to test and see just take it out, I cant remember how but if you have a haynes it should tell/show you how and it should be easy. See if you can get the hanger out and if it does, turn the key in the lock several times and make sure it feels smooth and not jamming in any places.. You dont want a broking key in there later. Also throw in some off that dust crap people use for door locks.. Carbonite or some **** like that..
.02 cents
Also when you take it out... DO NOT disassemble the cylinder. you will have a hell of a time trying to get it back together.. if you can get it back together.

I found the culprit. My daughter used the jeep and locked the key in the car. Of course she didn't know about the extra key under the bumper so she got a boy friend to help her. They had heard the phrase, "open it with a coat hangar" but they didn't realize that meant pushing it down the window and grab the mechanism, so they jammed the coat hangar in the key lock. IDIOTS.
These are 20 something kids. They are not the same 20 somethings a generation ago.
Any way I've fiddled with it using some dental instruments and now it is half way sticking out of the lock. But it is stuck there. I can't pull it out. I'll keep fiddling with it.
I need a photo on how to remove and replace a door lock. Including how to remove the door panel. This Laredo has electric everything so removing the panel looks like a big pain. Appreciate any photo you might send. I'll go see if Chelton's shows it.
