Default Reman vs. Used Engine Swap

Well my 2001 4.0 cracked the head so its time for a replacement. If money wasn't an issue, would you rather go with a reman engine with a different 0331 head or a used engine (no knocking, ticking, issues) with 112k miles out a rear end wrecked XJ? I've heard some reman engines use not the best of parts for the reman process but also at the same time the warranty seems nice. Specifically looking at a Titan or Powertrain Products (apparently they have a stronger 0331 head from their factory) reman. I've heard the QAQC of Jasper has gone down over the years.

If the engine is healthy other than the cracked head, I wouldn't even consider replacing the engine.

If it was overheated and more damage was done, that is a different story.

I would absolutely get a used engine. But that is my answer based on my personal skill set and understanding of the way that can go.n

Hard to tell if it was overheated.... I bought it about 2 months ago. The previous owner said it never overheated but not sure how true that is. From what I can tell, the head is cracked or cracked head gasket (coolant in the oil) and I've got some bad rod knocking. I replaced the rod bearings but that didn't fix the knock so now I'm wondering if the crankshaft is worn from the rod knocking. I'm going to keep this engine for parts but not really aiming to rebuild it since it has more than 1 issue and unknown if it overheated or not.

I think I'm leaning more towards the used engine just due to the cost savings and this isn't a primary vehicle.
