One question I had is, on my "un-redone" headliner, there appears to be some sort of padding or foam between the fabric and the "board" from the factory. Have you noticed a noise or temperature (insulation) issue by not replacing it with something before putting the new fabric on?

Yea old lady fabric store.

www.joann.com

Regular old felt. I think it said HD. Seems thick.

The foam backing usually stays on the board. I just pull off the old cloth. Very thin material.

I'd try to leave the foam on the board. The reason I redid so many was that the old fabric, thin, came loose and drooped down. Without it's foam backing.

The regular headliner material is foam backed fabric. Harder to install, and very pricey. I stand by my felt. Works and looks great.
