Default Relay Clicking in trunk - advice

Hello all,

I am new to the forum. I have a factory right hand drive 1995 Jeep Cherokee Limited. It runs great and I am really enjoying it. It just recently started making a clicking noise from the trunk area. I went to the source which was on the left hand side of the trunk. I pulled off the panel and there is a wiring harness. There were wires going into a small black box which I believe is a relay. The black box makes a clicking sound while driving the vehicle.

Does anyone have any idea why this is doing this and what I can do to fix it?

Any help is appreciated.

Have a hitch?
Sounds like it might be a trailer harness.

Thank you for your quick reply. I do have a trailer hitch. Could I just unplug it or are there other electrical items that would mess up if I unplugged it? I am not going to tow anything with this Jeep.

If it's a factory relay and it can just unplug, there shouldn't be any harm in unplugging it. If it's been added in after it may have screw terminals and a bunch of wires which will need to be insulated after disconnecting. If you're unsure, post a pic up.

Check your rear lights after unplugging it and if they are all working, there's nothing to worry about.

It has about 6 wires (different colors) with connectors going into what I believe is a relay. All of the wires aren't exposed they have metal connectors on the end. I will try unplugging it and see if I see have tail lights etc. Thanks for the help. I will let you know what happens,
