Is that how the shocks are supposed to sit on the front?? Because...even with a torque wrench at 20ft-lbs that nut isn't going down further--on both sides. I've already tried the Bilstein 4600s but they are too short. Any thoughts?

It's not clicking, just spinning around. If the shaft spins, that's probably what my problem is, and it's kind of awkward trying to stop that because the body is in the way.

Solutions? Channel locks, vice grips? Don't really wanna hurt the shock.

Take a shop towel and wrap the shock rod.. Clamp on vice grips very top of rod, not to tight just enough to stop the spin.. Then tighten up until the rubber squashes down to the diameter of the top washer.

this

some shocks have a slot for a wrench to hold onto or a hex fitting in the top to stop the spinning

cant member if 5100s have either, but the old fashioned vice grips work perfect

5100s have a hex (Allen) fitting in the top.
