Exclamation Recurring Starting Problem

I got my 94 cherokee SE with the 4L inline 6 with an automatic transmission about 6 months ago. I got it for free and it was running. I brought it home as i was making plans to put new shocks, tires etc... A few days after I got it home it wouldnt start and I got this funny electrical noise when i turned the key it sounded like the noise was under me. I would turn the key and it wouldnt crank, my dad suggested it was the NSS switch and he was correct. I got a JY NSS switch installed it and woila it works. 6 months later same problem, I tore off the plastic covering on the wires of the old NSS and i found a wire that had been torn in half. I shrink wrapped it together it was the Yellow number 2 wire. So i installed the old one with the patched up wire back on the jeep. It didnt work and now i have no idea how to go about this problem. The sound came yesterday once but once i flicked the key again it fired right up and fired up first time later that night. If this helps any it rained yesterday night for the first time in a few months.

Thanks Dan

I turned the key to on and tested the wires from the NSS and the ohmeter read correctly when i was in park. But when it was in reverse and getting correct ohms at the terminals the reverse lights werent coming on. Im thinking its time for a mechanic if nobody has any ideas.

I figured out the aligment on the switch and now the reverse lights are coming on. I believe I can rule the NSS out and whats the best way to go about testing the rest I.E Starter, relays and such.
