Default Rebuilding an AX-15 and other ?'s

Just picked up a 1990 Cherokee AX-15 today for 9 bucks (the price of a 24 pack of pepsi). Im planning on swapping it in to replace my automatic but I had a couple questions. First is there a good in depth how to on rebuilding these out there? Its in pretty good shape but a couple of the synchros are bad and the reverse gear is missing a tooth so it needs a little bit of work, plus I bought it 100% disassembled so I dont have the luxury of just learning as I take it apart (never rebuilt a standard before)

Also its one of the internal slave ones, which i've heard are less than desireable, however i've heard you can pretty easily convert them to an external slave just with another bellhousing and the slave itself. Is this all that is involved and is it worth doing?

Well thanks for the help.

The internal slave is less than desirable only when you have to replace it, and this normally happens after 6-8 years of use. I suggest you keep the internal slave and think of the money you will have to spend to buy pedal assembly, crossmember, mounts and propeller shafts to swap the gearbox in place of the auto, without mentioning the diff gear ratio that will prolly be to low.
Now to rebuild your gearbox there is nothing special you need to know apart from a good exploded view to know where all the parts go, a parts list and the new parts.
PM me with your email if you want the PDFs.

Yeah the PDF's would be great. When I bought it came with the trans mounts, ill see if I can get all the other stuff from the junkyard. Considering I have 33's on the stock 3.55 gears i'd say my gearing should be fine, maybe a bit high still. Thanks alot.

Rebuilding a tranny isn't for the faint of heart, so if you've never done it before make sure you've got someone there who has to help walk you through it.
