So my brother has been away for the last 3 years and isnt going to need his 1995 cherokee xj anymore so im taking her in. It overheats but the radiator, hoses, thermostat, and heater control valve have all been replaced. The tags are out so i havent driven it long enough to get it to overheat. If its a blown head gasket should i just rebuild everything in the engine while im at it? The lifters also make a ticking noise when its running. It has 233k miles.
First off and most importantly, sell me the cowl intake. As long as the oil pressure and compression is good just slap a gasket on it and call it good.
The oil pressure is pegged like all the way at idle, could be a pressure switch. Ill check the compression at my shop when i can get it up there. Hopefully its not even a gasket, but i dont know yet.
Oh yeah he did replace the water pump too! Ill flush the coolant too. Its pretty clean but maybe there is an air pocket or something in there when he did the radiator.
Just noticed that water pump wasn't on the replacement list. That would be number one in my list, as well as a full coolant system flush.
I got tags and drove it around and its not overheating luckily. But i went to fill up on gas and it only goes to about a half tank then stops filling up. I put about 8 gallons in and the gas light was on before that but idk why it would stop filling up before the tank is full. Any thoughts on what this could be?
