I've had this XJ for a couple months now and this has always been an issue. Im not sure if this is just how the wiper works or if the switch is going bad. The rear wiper works but only wipes once, effectively making me press the switch each time i want to wipe the rear window. Is this normally how it works or should the blade continue to wipe the whole time? I've never owned a XJ prior to this so I dont have anything to reference it against. Thanks for any help.

The way all of mine worked was. Once you push the button it would wipe 3 or 4 times then it would make one swipe every 1 or 2 seconds.
Hope this helps.

So, when you clicked your wiper switch it would do what you explained and continue to wipe until you clicked the switch again to turn it off, correct?
