Rear Wiper Nonsense

To begin, I know the rear wiper is not essential. But when I drive up in the mountains in the winter, it actually is. Snow and slush and dirt cake the whole rear window, and I can't see anything. Put up with this all ski season.
2001 XJ sport. I replaced the motor, and it worked for a while, but then it quit. I checked the fuse, and it was blown. Put a new one in, and it arked and blew again immediately. Now the switch will not light up sometimes as well.
Thoughts? I suspect it's a short, but where would you look first? The boot above the hatch looks like its in good shape. Stumped.

Wires may be broke in the grommet. Chrysler door wiring sucks *** big time. Always did.
You may need to rewire the stuff in the hatch if the wires are broken
