What type of lift?
Were new spring packs installed?
If you are still running the stock packs, I would say YES, your handling will suffer.
OEM springs weaken and rely on the added stability the rear swaybar adds.

Its a 4.5 lift with AAL but I think im going to get the complete new spring pack shortly after I noticed how much the AAL settled.

I don't have a rear sway bar anymore. Chucked it after the lift. My XJ handles fine on the road, and better off the road, lol. But I don't tow anything so I can't say how it would handle that...

The rear sway bar has been the first thing i have removed off any xj i have owned < 4, and ive done it stock even before lifting because they IMHO are useless in the rear on the XJ.

I left mine on..If I ever do any sort of wheelin that required the articulation I'll take it off before heading out but I forgot to take it off and to lazy to do it..Now when I do the rear axle swap it'll come off.
It's all about the condition of your springs and their spring/shock rates. test drive it with it disconnected and see if you feel it's good enough to be removed or not. every jeep is different.

i ditched mine after realizing with blocks in the back it rubs the tires, trashed a tire that way, luckily it wasn't the bigger ones.
it handles fine, only time it is noticeable is on a very bumpy road that is also more than 40 mph, and sometimes rail road tracks, i feel the rear end a little bit. completely tolerable. normal highway it is completely unoticeable.

The rear springs on my 91 are Rusty'd full 4.5" packs and on my Son's we did a 3" AAL to some VERY worn stock packs. We removed the rear sway bar from both of the XJs when we lifted them and have felt no difference on the road.
