Default Rear speaker replacement.

I am planning on replacing my rear speakers with either polk audio or some infinity speakers. Anyways, I was able to get the cover off of the rear speakers but there are NO screws visible. Anyone else know what I am talking about? Seems like any year after 97 they started using screws.

Which location are they in? The sound-bar above? or the back hatch? Somewhere else?

Ok. I just recently did this same job. And ran into the same problem you did.

The speakers were originally installed from the inside of the sound-bar, that is why you don't see screw heads. But like you, I wanted to mount my new speakers from the outside of the soundbar.

So I took a small trim tool, the metal kind that looks a little like a snake's tongue on the end (with a little notch). I used that to bust the little rubber/plastic retainers that hold the speaker in. I suppose a small sharp flat head screw driver might work, I'm sure you'll find something that will do it. Then after removing the speaker, I reached into the remaining hole with needle noses and removed the rest of the original mounting screws. Leaving just the small holes behind. Its even ok if you should accidentally rip one of the holes.

Then I used the mounting hardware (the little metal-v brackets and screws that come with most speakers) to mount the new speakers. Only this time, they got mounted from the outside, making them like any other speaker installation.

Took me about 45 minutes to do the first one because I wasn't sure if I was making the right choice. I was worried I would rip things up and regret it. The second one took about 5 minutes, because I knew that it would work, and I knew what to do.

Awesome! I figured those little black things were just some sort of retainer clip that could be popped off. I haven't even ordered my speakers yet so I wanted to see what I was getting into beforehand. Sidenote, the infinity speakers I'm looking at looks like they have a wiring apparatus that you just put the speaker wires into and screw them until it is secure and food proof to install.

Check it,

Mine are held in place with plastic rivets. Just drill them out.
