Default Rear Shocks

Before I got my jeep the guy before me welded a new floor in in the rear. I went to change the shocks and it looks like you have to put a wrench on top of the nut and then use a ratchet to loosen it. Is there any easier way to do it?

you could drill a hole in the rear compartment then install a rubber or plastic cap.

or you could drill a starter hole and use an air saw to cut out a square access. then use rtv and rivets or sheet metal screws to seal it up.

when installing my lift i fabbed up 2 stainless cover plates incase i had to do this. but i used the box wrench method that you spoke of.

i still have the plates, if you pay for shipping i'll give them to ya for free. i don't need them.

i hope this helps you sir.

I thought about drilling a hole and just using a reamer to make it big enough to fit a socket w/ an extension into it.

I wasn't sure if there was an easier way other than the wrench but I think the drill method is gonna be my choice just so I don't have to mess around with the wrench slipping off and the extra hassle

rear shock replacement? those bolts usually break from what ive read, most guys break them anyway, drill them out and use an air punch to bust the weld nut on them and fish grade 8 bolts throught the top. Unless im thinking of a different bolt?

believe me its alot easier to do the box wrench method then drilling them out.
i got lucky when i installed my lift. i only broke 1 shock bolt. the one that broke i drilled it out and taped the nut to a box wrench and screwed the bolt right into it.
its really not a big deal. just use antizeize when reinstalling.

3 weeks previous to doin my lift i was out there everyday, twice aday spraying kroil on all the bolts.

You're thinking of the right bolts. These have already been replaced, so the bolts just spin in the hole as they aren't welded like the factory ones were.
