Default Rear seat upgrade

Hi all, I'm a new member to CherokeeForum. Great site.
I just bought myself a 1989 XJ Laredo 4x4 over the weekend and in closer looking for the safety of your children in the XJ, we notice the back seats do not have head rests.
This became a problem for my wife and I, but mostly my wife because she is a certified Child safety/baby car seat install tech for the hospital she works at. (I do care about my kids safety also)
I will be using the xj for a daily driver to work and taking my kids to school. My wife requested to find a forum that would help us find a fix for our problem. So here I am asking for help.

So can the back seat of this 89 xj be replace with a newer rear seat from an xj with head rests?
We thank you
LS

I cant help you much on the seat deal other that if you can find a cherokee with head rest in back it should fit

but my question is what dose the head rest have to do with the child seat

I am curious about the same thing. My kids sit in booster seats but only thing I could think of would be whip lash..Now if they are in a standard child seat that supports their head then it should not be an issue. I am considering finding a rear seat with head rests for my kids but not sure if it's truly worth the effort.

The problem is not with the child seat but with our older 12yr. and 15yr. old that rides in the back. In an accident/rearend type. she will not have nothing to stop their heads from snapping back.

Two of my children are too old for booster seats.

I work at a school and before this job i worked at a chemical plant for 10yrs. one thing i have learned from the chemical plant is SAFETY first.

So is there any XJ with headrests on the back seat at all out there?
What year models have them?

Did jeep ever make a back seat with headrest on XJs?

probably not the most economical option. but jeep 2500's (chineese xj's) have them. you can see pics on the link. I would assume finding one and getting it over here would take some effort though.

you can swap in ZJ or WJ rear seats with very little modification.

This is a great link...

Just an aside--wondering has anyone fabbed their own custom back seat? I mean not just re-covering it, but rebuilding it. I was thinking of tubular construction and a material like you'd see on some high-end office desk chairs that's like a super strong mesh material?? Just thinkin' out loud...

Either way--would be great to hear from others who have fitted headrests in the back!

Any write up on this? Would like to know what is required before I drop cash on a seat. I have a couple of kiddos as well and wouldnt mind having this. Alot of the older SUVs do not have rear seat headrests. My wife's 97 s10 blazer doesn't either.

i run a zj rear seat. took a little drilling, but thats it. its a tight fit, but nice. I did it so I can have the 60/40 split seat so i can fit my spare tire and an extra passenger
