Rear hatch doesn't close

Default Rear hatch doesn't close

All of a sudden the hatch wont close on my xj. The little finger latch is stuck closed it seems. Any suggestions on how to fix.

if its the little locking mechanism on the hatch same thing happened to me, just get a screw driver and push it back into the open possition

I used to have the opposite problem. Mine wouldn't open.
It's possible the grease is old and is stiff in the cold. Dilute it with WD40 or similar light oil. When it warms up, get some of the spray white grease that is used on door hinges.

Maybe the body? I ran into this prob yesterday i was on uneven terrain and my jeep was flexing a bit. i had the rear open just hanging out in desert and i went too shut it and it would not shut! Unibodies i hear if you flex em real hard all the time everything begins to get real hard to open and close.

Yea. If it's in latched position, push it back out while working the latch/button.

X2 on Twisted. Mine can hit the tail-light parked right.

I like spray grease. I can lube my hinges from across the street!

Yea i got it closed nice and tight. Just some strength and wd40 worked like a charm.

It was definitely the flexing all these ice banks are to enticing!
