Default Rear Fender Trimming

I plan on cuting and folding my rear fenders today...is there anyway to keep the paint from chipping when you fold it or atleast minimize it?

Maybe it depends on the year. How old your paint is. Personally im painting mine with spray on bed liner (and a clear coat) so for me that's just one more easier spot to sand
