Rear drum brake conversion

Pulled the parts off a 98 ZJ and have a quick question. Do I NEED to use the zj proportion valve? Also the rear discs are 9 inch on the ZJ right?

No, but it's recommended to use the "guts" from it. I did the disc conversion and have the guts from the ZJ valve to go into my XJ valve, but haven't done it yet and it works fine.

Correct, you don't HAVE to use it but lots of people swear by it.

I have not done it either.
