just to double check, is this the correct size?

DANA SPICERŽ 297x / 760x Replacement Series U-Joint:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/52302_102.htm

and i need some replacement straps, but I've read that some people drill out the bolts and replace the straps with ujoints. Worth it?

If you're going through the trouble of drilling out the bolts that sheared off, you may want to consider this upgrade: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/re...version-28141/

I'm planning on doing it in the future...It's a cheap upgrade. If the u bolts ever break off like your straps did, there won't be any need to drill out the yoke. Just put in more u bolts and drive.

MOOG and Timken are also good companies for driveline parts like u joints and wheel bearings. Any chain automotive parts stores would have the joints you're looking for (greaseable too).

Thanks, I just purchased a Spicer 760 and grabbed the ford u bolt kit from oreillys. Planning to tackle this tommorow after work, and throw some antisieze on the slipyoke to get rid of the thump. Thanks for your help!

Say, which U joints did you buy? 286x/760x is for the front axle. The drive shafts use a much larger 1310 joint

Are you sure? Every source I've seen shows the 760

I was wrong on which one is larger, but yes 1000%. Where are you looking that is telling you that a 760x fits into the drive shaft? Cap size on a 1310 is 1-1/16", 5-760X is 1-3/16"

You were right, I was getting confused. Grabbed some 1310s and threw them in yesterday, and switched out the straps for some ubolts. But now I've got a slight problem. I tried to install the shaft back on to the slip yoke the same way, but I must have shifted it a few splines off because now I have some vibration. Is there anyway to realign the slip yoke and driveshaft other than trial and error?

Drive shaft is a balanced unit. Is one or both of the u-joints seized up, is the yoke damaged?

Actually, I just fixed it. I just rotated the driveshaft a few splines over and just like that, no more vibes.

i believe 1310s are used on front and rear drive shafts and a 1330 is the one that sits at the drive shaft/diff connection. I'm searching now, but I believe there is a 1330 in rear somewhere.

i cant find the chart, i think 1330 was for abs 35s, i could of swore i had one on my 8.25 dif side...oh well

well, for what its worth I used a 1310 on both ends of the rear ds and it fit perfectly. I've got a NP242 and 35 rear, so i don't know if it varies between configurations.

Im still looking, this is bugging me now

Edit: Ok, so the 1310 1/4 ton ujoint is the universal one for the cherokee, but! Some came equipped with a 1330 1/2 ton ujoint from the factory. I have one on my 8.25 and I'm guessing it is all in the yoke they used. I'm seeing that it is random between 35 and 8.25 users. Oh well, you got it fixed so good job!

I have a 95 with an 8.25 so they should be 1330 right? i have heard it bounced around there is a "heavy duty" drive shaft but my build sheet doesnt say anything like that. So i should have 1330 all the way around?

I didn't realize that 1330 spec was used anywhere on XJs. Same cap size as 1310 but nearly half an inch wider!
