Default Rear Diff. question.

So I was given a 2000 Cherokee Sport I am halfway through replacing the Evap Core, heater core, accumulator. I was told there was an issue with the rear diff, something about it not wanting to go forward and it was looked at by a shop and they said rear diff. So before I got started with the Evap. core I popped the diff cover and to me it looked fine. There was no bits of metal, no shavings, no excessive wear at all. Fluid was in good shape. Is there anything else I should look for? Before starting today I drove it around and noticed no noises when turning, no whine, no sounds at all. Car went into gear fine. The only thing I might have noticed is when going into drive it made a little thump/aggressive transition. Any ideas?

You should have taken some pics of the rear diff when you had the cover off.

Did you look at your transmission linkage? U joints in your rear drive shaft check out ok? Something to consider.

Looks pretty clean if you ask me. Some things to check as far as that thump is concerned are your ujoints in the rear driveshaft and also your transmission mount. Also make sure your exhaust hangers are in good shape and the exhaust pipe isn't hitting the transmission crossmember.

Greetings. Take a look at the first and third pictures. It appears that you have some broken teeth on the ring gear at the 8 and 9 o'clock positions. It would be worthwhile to look again before you button it up.
