Rear diff or bearing
Hello everyone. I have a 95 jeep cherokee. I have been noticing there is a vibration/humming noise coming from the rear of the jeep. Usually louder when going around a right turn. As well as coming to a stop. On the brakes or not. I checked my differential and it is full. Prob should be changed though. It does make some noise when just cruisin on a straight away. Just not very noticeable. Any advice would be grateful. What fluid would be the best for the rear as well. Thanks.

Change the fluid and check for metal shavings.
If you tow, Use 75w-140 (or some sort of viscosity close to it)
If you don't tow, use 75w-90 (or close to it)

Sounds like wheel bearings.
Usually diff bearings will make noise all the time. Just did a 99 Grand Cherokee that had bad carrier bearing. Would hum all the time, varying sound with speed.
Check the u-joints too. Grease them if they have fittings.
Best thing to do is get it on a lift and run it while listening to the rear end.

If making noises on turns, taking off from a stop and backing up it may be posi chatter or broken clutch plates in the posi. Best thing is to pull the cover and do a quick inspection of the clutch packs. If all looks good try a fluid change with non synthetic fluid and a bottle of LSD additive.
