Default Rear camshaft plug

2001 4.0 rebuild,
Any reason to leave the camshaft rear plug out of the block until the cam is installed??
got the block back from the machine shop and noticed it is out (along with the oil galley plugs)

Any special instructions for installing the plug?

Thanks,
Slack

The cam plug has to be removed to replace the cam bearings. The oil gallery plugs were removed to thoroughly clean the passages, likewise the core plugs to allow the heated solvent in the tanking process to boil out all the rust. I would suggest installing it before the cam so that it can be expanded without hitting on the camshaft. Just use a thin coating of sealer around the edges when you install it, not enough to squeeze into the bearing.
