True, but this is what I am all about

Looks like a lot of internal turbulence........but maybe not. Definitely not straight-thru.

I have the infamous APN replacement manifold, stock plumbing, and a Magnaflow turbo XL muffler, at first it sounded like a fart in a beercan, really ricey and annoying. After a year the tone has really mellowed to a much deeper sound that is really pleasant. not too loud but certainly "tough" sounding

It may look like whatever but flows about as good as a straight pipe, is quieter and way different sounding than a straight pipe or chambered muffler. That's kind of the reason I posted it, to show something thats out there thats just a good as a baffled muffler (in mine and their any many other peoples minds) And it has no baffling or anything that would be affected by inconsistent heat up-cool down cycles.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I won't be installing this on my own - prob. go to 4 Wheel Parts for the install.

I will listen to the sounds of mufflers in the link when I get a chance. From what I'm gathering from the posts, the OEM headers seem to be ok, replacing them isn't all that necessary and changing the muffler out first would be a good start?

If the headers don't need to be replaced, all the better since it will save me money.

Thanks again!

Guess I'm confused about the muff drawing you posted as it appears to have 5 internal baffles........no???????

One thing is that is just one version of the many different series of mufflers they make, and it is considered chambered, but it is nothing like any chambered muffler out there (flowmaster) Its a chambered muffler with a spin sound trap, absolutely nothing like absorption (like your magnaflow) or diffusion or Hemholtz chamber design. Some could argue it is more of a diffusion muffler than a chambered muffler (not Hemholtz design) but I have spoken with several manufacturers and the guys at spintech seemed to have the most knowledge on thermodynamics and don't just use a flowbench and call it good. Here is some info, but keep in mind its coming from spintech and spintech distributors so it may be biased.

Also there have been many dyno shootouts of mufflers, but one thing to keep in mind is they are using brand new mufflers in the shoutouts, and normally all the mufflers are the manufacturers high end products that don't come in any kit. Also people claim that ceramic material in a absorption muffler won't be affected by heat, but IMO I don't care if it was packed with carbon carbon instead of ceramic or fiberglass or stainless steel mesh, uncontrolled and widely varied heat cycles will affect it.
