My Jeep makes a rattle sound right before it shifts at certain rpm ranges. It seems to occur at ~2750+ rpm. I can't reproduce the sound in the garage to track it down very well but it sounds like it's coming from the bell housing area. Does this sound like it could be a bad flexplate?

 

What year is your jeep?

U can take the inspection plate off and check for cracks and re torque the bolts down.

 

It's a 1996.

 

U could also check the trans mount and the exhaust hanger mount on the crossmember and verify if the exhaust pipe aren't banging on anything.

 

And refresh my memory. Which direction do you rotate the flexplate while tightening the bolts. Clockwise or counterclockwise

 

I'm not sure. I just can't remember.
