Default Random heat surge

So the jeep drove fine on the way to work nothing out of the ordinary. On the way home there was a bit of traffic so I had to sit for about 10-20 minutes stop and go etc. For some reason my temp gauge went up to just about 215, the electric fan cut on and then that was it. I was simply idling in traffic, nothing else, its never done that before. The temp usually stays between 208-210 during idle.

I said whatever lol and drove home. But then again today I was in a drive-thru for about 5 minutes and the temp shot up again so the elec fan had to kick in. So I am / kind of confused and has this happened to anyone just randomly out of nowhere.

ALSO so you guys have more info.
- new thermostat was put in last june
-new radiator 2 months ago
-new hoses
-new water pump

Sounds like it's time for a new clutch on the mechanical fan.

there is really no surefire way to test the clutch...your description is pointing directly at a bad fan clutch.

I guess ill update if anyone is interested LOL. The next morning I got a Heavy duty fan from oriellys part number 2737. took 15 minutes and only required a 13mm wrench, another wrench for leverage and some locktite. The jeep is running cooler than never with the new fan and the issue went away.

Of course we're interested. Needs to be done by all posters.

GLAD it worked for you. Like Martlor said there's just no surefire way to test them.

Yes, if it's loose it's bad. If it's tight.... it might still be bad!
