Never had this problem since I've owned the Jeep had it for 2 years. Got in it today and drove around and noticed that the radio is staying on when I turn off the car. What might be the issue

I think the radio gets when the key switch in in the "on" or "acc" position. It could be that your switch is getting worn out internally and even though you've turned it off, the contacts inside the switch are still connecting.

What's a good way to test that to know to know for sure, I can just power my radio down with the off button so that's what I did. This is the radio I have. Went to turn down the volume and the **** came off and fell back behind the dash (just my luck).Originally Posted by XJ2MTNS

If your hvac blower motor still blows with key off or your wipers and lights still work with the key off I would say that points to the key switch itself. If it's only the radio then I'm not sure.

I'm not home so I didn't check those but I have a rechargeable flashlight in the cigarette lighter and it charges when the car is in the ACC position but it was off when the car was off.Originally Posted by XJ2MTNS

There is an "always powered on" connection for the clock and radio memory locations. Main radio power is through the ignition switch which is ON when the key is in Run or Accessory.
Obviously, it's an aftermarket radio. Did you just install it recently?

No it was installed when I purchased it back in 2023. It has always turned off when I turned the car off but I haven't drove it in over a week and decided to drive it today that's when I noticed the radio stayed on after I turn off my car cause my music just kept going. Originally Posted by Saudade

I checked the wipers and the blower motor and they stay off when the key is in th off position. Does that mean it's just a radio issue. I guess I'll try pushing the reset button and seeing if I can find a manual online to find the settings on it

I wish I knew more about car audio.. but Google had this to say about it....
Good luck, I hope you find a solution.
An aftermarket car radio staying on after the ignition is turned off and the key is removed is usually due to incorrect wiring or a faulty ignition switch. Specifically, the radio's power wire might be connected to a constant power source instead of a switched one (only powered when the ignition is on). Alternatively, a failing ignition switch could be providing accessory power even when it shouldn't be.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Incorrect Wiring:
2. Faulty Ignition Switch or Cylinder:
3. Other Potential Causes:
Troubleshooting Steps:

An aftermarket car radio staying on after the ignition is turned off and the key is removed is usually due to incorrect wiring or a faulty ignition switch. Specifically, the radio's power wire might be connected to a constant power source instead of a switched one (only powered when the ignition is on). Alternatively, a failing ignition switch could be providing accessory power even when it shouldn't be.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1. Incorrect Wiring:
- Aftermarket radios typically have two power wires: a constant power wire (usually yellow) that retains settings and a switched power wire (usually red) that turns the radio on/off with the ignition.
- If the switched power wire is connected to a constant power source, the radio will stay on even when the ignition is off.
- The solution is to rewire the radio, ensuring the switched power wire is connected to a source that is only powered when the ignition is on or in the accessory position.
2. Faulty Ignition Switch or Cylinder:
- The ignition switch may be worn or malfunctioning, failing to cut off power to the accessory circuit when the key is removed.
- A worn ignition cylinder can also cause the switch to remain in the "accessory" or "on" position even when the key appears to be removed.
- In these cases, a mechanic may need to realign or replace the ignition cylinder or switch.
3. Other Potential Causes:
- Radio Settings:
Some radios have settings that allow them to stay on for a period of time after the ignition is turned off. - Body Control Module (BCM):
In some vehicles, the BCM controls retained accessory power (RAP), which keeps certain features like the radio on for a short time after the ignition is turned off. A faulty BCM or RAP relay could cause issues with this feature.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- 1. Check the radio's wiring:
Verify that the switched power wire is correctly connected to a switched power source. - 2. Inspect the ignition switch:
Ensure the switch is functioning correctly and not providing power when it shouldn't. - 3. Consult the radio's manual:
Check for any settings related to delayed power-off or retained accessory power. - 4. Consider professional help:
If you're uncomfortable with wiring or suspect a faulty ignition switch or BCM, consult a qualified mechanic.

Its very likely an issue with the radio itself.

Do you have the installation manual for the radio? I would pull the radio, verify which pins get powered by the ignition switch and test with a multimeter.
