Radiator shroud Do I need it?
I been having antifreeze come out of the overflow. I replace the thermostat and fan clutch, but the PO did not have a fan shroud on. Could this cause my problem. I drive it on the highway to and from work mostly highway about 5 minutes in traffic the rest at 65mph for about 20-30minutes. Also the temp on the thermostat is 192 is that correct?
2.5 4cylinder
Thanks

Yes, You need the fan shroud. It helps direct the air flow through the radiator. Without it the fan pulls air from around the radiator resulting in insufficient cooling

I don't think that would cause an over flow. Maybe you have some blockage in the system. I am running with out a shroud my self on my 4.0 and have never ran across that problem. Top hole let go, hit fan and grenaded.
It is on my list to replace for safety reasons.

Maybe you filled the coolant too high previously to it overflowing? Its running at a good temp. Yes you need a shroud, its a vital part of the cooling system. Like said above it pulls air trough the radiator and not from around it.

I will try that too.
Does anyone know if the shroud is the same for the 6 cylinder as the 4 cylinder?
I found a couple on-line and they all look the same size, plus I wanted to go to the JY tomorrow and get one cheap if i can.

the shroud is absolutely needed, especailly on a 4 cyl. no question, you need to get one. i've had bad radiator caps do that also.

Thanks blue, I just trying to get this thing to run right. The PO did not know what he was doing when he had it, he has left me a bunch of
surprises. Like a power steering fluid bottle under the driver seat upside down. I had to pull all the carpet on the driver side out.

they shouldn't be the same for 4 and 6. the 4 being so much shorter, it needs that shroud otherwise half the air flow doesn't go to the motor thats supposed to. i had a 4 banger yj and half the shroud got ripped off on the trail, and it would over heat without it.
i see many engine cooling problems when shrouds are damaged or missing.

I dont have any experience with shroud vs no shroud (at least not on a XJ) But if ur only runnin at 192, then its not overheating. Thats why i say bad cap.
