Hi Everyone,
I need some help. Found a leak in my radiator (2001 4.0 auto 4x4). Started to remove and everything has come apart ok except for the lower transmission line on the drivers side. I removed the large nut and it seems like the threads have come loose and the metal line won't pull out of the core. Can anyone help with what I'm missing? I don't want to horse it and break it off if I don't have to.
Thanks!!

I believe that year has quick disco lines. The large nut just holds the guts of the tranny cooler in the rad

Does it have a yellow fitting inserted into some hard pipe a few inches from the radiator? If so, just squeeze those tabs and push/pull the fitting apart. It's actually very easy to get apart

i had the same issue on my '01 XJ. I had to buy a fuel line disconnect tool to be able to do it. i believe ti was a 5/16ths. then it came right off and went back together perfectly.

X2 on the fuel quick disco tool. You could also try to use a pick tool or something to depress the clip inside, but when I had to do this, only the tool would work.

I have replaced my second radiator in my '01 xj now..
You do have the quick connects for the lines. All I ever used to disconnect them when changing the radiator are two pair of needle nose pliars, because when I purchased the "special" tool it didn't work.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Disconect tool att autozone is like $5. I tried to get that line apart for about two hours without it, went and picked up that little piece of plastic and it poped right off.
