yes.. air does migrate UP in a liquid... i don't think anyone will argue that..

the amount of tilt for an engine on a level surface is only a few degrees... its not like its 30 degrees... not everyone's working surfaces are perfect... coolant passages through the block and head are not perfect surfaces.. so therefore.. it may not be necessary.. i only suggested it if getting air out was an issue..

I have found that when you replace the radiator a lot of time the cap won't tighten down like they should. So what I have done and it worked every time. I would bent the metal tabs on the new cap just a little at a time until it wold seal tight like it should. I have done that on all 4 of my XJ's and a few other vehicles I have owned.
