Default Radiator Issues

This weekend my radiator blew out. The temperature guage was not reading hot. I am concerned that there may be more mechanical issues due to it overheating, besides the radiator. Any ideas what/how to check for additional issues? I don't want to just replace the radiator and the thermostat, then drive it around and make things worse.

Might want to check for coolant in the oil first and vice versa.

I just did mine last weekend. Mine was fine until I was sitting at a drive up window in the warm weather. My radiator split on the side and she started to overheat. I got a new one along with hoses and coolant expansion bottle and thermostat and back flushed the motor and heater core and installed new anti-freeze. All is good now. Not a hard job.

I wouldn't panic just yet. Replace the radiator and just keep an eye on everything. A radiator can burst with out warning if there is a weak spot and not cause you to over heat. Give it a good system flush and play it by ear.

What do u mean by "my radiator blew out"? Does that mean the rad split/ruptured and dumped coolant on the ground or does that mean coolant was blowing by the rad cap overflow?

What cooling system maintenance have u done? I don't quite understand how "just replacing the rad and t-stat" could "make things worse". I also don't understand "was not reading hot" and then "due to it overheating". If u r "concerned about more mechanical issues", what not replace all of the cooling system components....in addition to the rad and stat.

Again, what cooling system maintenance has been done?......If none, then one component failing is a likely indication that other components are soon to fail as well.
