I have a question about why my ac wouldn't work after I had already drained the r-12, changed the oil in the compressor, and vacuum tested the system and found no leaks and that my ac still blows hot after installing 36 ounces of r-134a. The ac compressor comes on and seems to be working fine but just not blowing cold air. Thanks for any replies.

What are the system pressures? Is the hot/cold blend door working? Could be a clogged expansion valve or orifice tube (not sure which the older XJs use). Did you install a new, R134 compatible drier?

I just tested the pressures and it seems that the high pressure side is around 200 psi and the low pressure side seems to have some sort of vacuum. Thanks for the response. Also the hot and cold blend door seems to be working fine because I can hear it switch from heat to “ac”.

Sounds like you have a restriction somewhere in the system. Check along the hoses for a sudden change in temperature.
