Default Quick Question.

98 XJ 4X4 with the 4.0. I'm not sure of the tranny.
Here is my problem. The belt squeals when the air con compressor kicks on. I replaced the water pump this weekend and while I was in there I replaced the serpentine belt but it still squeals. I tensioned the belt until there is about 1/4 play. I am thinking of replaceing the air con pulley. Any suggestions?

The AC compressor pulley/bearing may be on it's way out. Is there movement in the pulley at all when it's running?

How did you adjust the tension? there is an adjustment under the PS pump which lots of owners don't know about...Tj

I had this problem....my AC Compressor was shot but the clutch was still good....Anytime the clutch engaged it would spin the compressor which was locked up cause the motor to bog and the belt to squeal. Becuase I didnt have the money to replace it and I still needed defrost for the winter, I pulled the AC clutch relay so that the clutch would not engage when using the defrost.
