Quick help:Trans hose discon- lost *all fluid: no shift - proceedure 2 refil & contin

Transmission fluid hose disconnected on way to store. Got to the point that it would not shift and had to push into parking space and leave overnight. I am thinking I just need to refill and let it recirculate to get bubbles out but ... Any advice? Anyone had this happen and have some sage words of advice.

yes and no..tranny hoses don't usually just disconnect. What have you done to ensure it won't pop off again. you need to get a small funnel with a 2 foot thin hose attached, otherwise the escaping vent air during refil clogs the fill pipe and the stuff just bubbles over and its almost impossible to fill
Thanks for the reply and the information. To answer your question about how it disconnected, I recenently replaced the radiator. My guess is I did not tighten the hose clamp enough or it came loose because it was a cheap hose clamp.
Are you suggesting I refill the transmission fluid through the fill tube but put 2' long hose down the fill tube?
Is another possibiility refilling through the hose that leads to the transmission cooler? There is a pump of sorts on the other side of that tube that would make me question trying to fill it using that method.

Just put the hose back on and fill the transmission through the fill tube and hope that the trans is ok .

- I've had this happen twice, both times because a cooler hose split. Once I trashed the trans (eventually diagnosed as a burnt out pump) once, I repaired/replaced the hose, refilled the trans & it was fine - & that was long enough ago to have come up for a fluid change since - so it does seem to be a matter of luck, so it's wishin' & hopin' & prayin' time.
If you pour down the fill dipstick tube just through a funnel, it will back up on you unless you pour so ridiculously slow it will take an hour to pour in a gallon.

Personally, I've never had a problem refilling any autobox - which is not to say it might not be tedious

I did not have a problem Refilling via the filltube. It took about 10 mins putting in about a quarter of a quart at a time. 4 quarts refilled total. Seems to be operating fine.

Did not find this to be the case. It was slower but not an hour. Originally Posted by bluejeep2001
