quick disconnects and mud????
I'm hooking up the sway bar in the 1998 cherokee sport i recently bought because i don't like all of the body roll on turns. It has a broken end link and a custom welded end link that i'm pretty sure would break like the other if used lol. I am no rock or mountain climber and not super big on trail riding, I prefer to sling mud and get dirty lol. Would buying quick disconnects benefit me in any way in the mud? i'm looking at either buying jks quicker disconnects or something like the zone offroad extended sway bar end links. my jeeps lifted 3" and i plan on trimming and running 33x12.5 tsl's hopefully in the near future. I just don't see how in a mucky muddy hole/puddle quick disconnects would help me get out, i can use that money in other areas like material to build a bumper so I have some recovery points lol.
If you do not plan on flexing out the suspension on the rocks or trails, then spend the cash on something else. The whole point of disconnects is to allow the front suspension to flex more to gain traction where it might not normally be able to. In the mud you would just be wasting your money. Do you already have any lift on your XJ? You could possibly benefit from extended sway bar links depending on how high your lift is.
yea, it came with a rough country 3"lift on it. I didn't think quick disconnects would do anything for me in the mud but at the same time i wasn't positive. glad I decided to post before i hit checkout lol. now i have to look into some tubular bumpers so my buddy can get a rough idea of what hes gonna build.
Depends on the bog. If you are connected and your front right tire is forced into bottomless nothing you don't meet as much resistance when the tire does hit the other side of whatever it fell into which won't slow you down as much. Disconnected your tire will have more resistance to climb over or a bump to hit. If you are disconnected if your right front hits a bump in the bog the left front is forced into the mud more with less resistance from the sway bar which can keep you moving. Flip a coin. Seriously though you will need to experiment. If you are just mudding then weld up the front and rear and don't worry about it.

Conventional wisdom has been that you can run a stiffer less flexy suspension in mud and save the flexy ones for the rocks

Based in the UK, most of our off roading involves mud and water. Not bogs or anything that extreme but mud and rivers etc. Most people over here run with disconnects purely because getting into and out of rivers and mud pits is a lot easier when you are disconnected.
I guess it is trial and error but as disconnects are relatively cheap, I'd get a set and run the trails both connected and disconnected and see what you prefer.
