Default Quick disconnect mud flaps

I got this idea from some after market TJ disco. mud flaps. Since I couldn't find any sold for the XJ, & had to have them to pass state safety/IM I figured I better make them! Its way easy & anyone with a high speed cutting wheel, measuring tape, Drill, & a ratchet set can do this for under $40!

I bought the steel & hardware from home depot, & the mud flaps from napa;
4' of 1" x 1" steel tube, 4' of 3/4" x 3/4" tube, nuts, bolts, lock washers, & pin.

Really you could mount 1"x1" tubes closer to the outside edge to make them easier to get to when reinstalling flaps. Once you've cut the tube to the length needed hold in place, & mark the mounting holes from the existing holes in the body. Drill then mount it up, so you can drill the hole for the pin.

Cut the 3/4" tube to legths needed. Drill through the mud flap & mark your holes on the 3/4"x3/4" tube. Then slide it in the 1" tube to mark where you want the three adjusting holes. Drill those as close to the bottom of the 3/4" tube as you can!

Test it out or "fit it" all up, then uninstall & paint!

Copy on the other side...

Thanks for the idea builtnotbought89. Due to WA state law and the militarys diligence to remind me about it EVERY day, I finally broke down and spent $18 on the flaps (NAPA) and $28 at lowes for all the hardware and undercoat. Now I too have quick disco REDNECK mudflaps. Dont like the look but it def. gets the job done and no more reminders from the gate guards!! only took a few hours to throw it together. Nice thing is the factory bumper already had the four holes to bolt the 3/4" 3' mounting tube to!

This mods a great idea, I'm geting ready to copy this idea for mine. I need to get mine inspected in September and my fenders are'nt covering the 50% of the tire that makes the great state of Utah all warm and fuzzy.

Is that the official requirement in Utah? I was thinking they were mandatory on anything lifted.

I was thinking i need them.. but all my rear tire is covered by flare.

Here in Utah your flair has to cover tread width horizontely, your fender (vertically) has to cover 50% of the tire if your lifted, if not, rear mudflaps are required. Credit for this info goes to Mike20 for posting up the current Utah inspection manual where I learned this.

Fender flares or fender extenders are required to cover both front and rear tires when tire tread extends beyond the vehicle body.

Check for mud flaps when vehicle has been altered. Mud flaps are required on the rear wheels of all vehicles that are altered from their original OEM specifications. This includes the addition of larger tires and suspension lift kits. (UCA 41-6a-1633)

REJECT
when:
1) Fenders do not cover the top 50% of the tire.
2) Mud flaps are not present when required.

3) Rear mud flaps are not as wide as the tire.
