questions about 98 cherokee
1. For the longest time I have wanted to get a chrome grill assembly for my Cherokee, mine is currently color matched to the body as moss green. Should I go to junk yards and find a chrome grill or just paint my current one? If I do paint my current one, how should I go about doing it?
2. The thing on my tailgate that houses the lights for my license plate is cracking, how do I go about replacing this?
3. My rear windshield wiper does not make full contact with the rear window and this has been annoying me, it still works and all but I'd like to have it clean that spot of the windshield because it makes it hard to see out in the rain. How do I fix this?
Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks everyone.

For the grill the cheapest way would be to take it off and paint it. But chrome paint doesnt look all that good to me so if it were me id look in the junkyard first. I painted mine just gloss black looks good. For removal its really straight foward. Find the philips screws and take them out. I just wiped my grill down and primered and painted them with gloss black from walmart. Looks really good. Just be sure if u do paint them to take your time and do light even coats. As for the plate light housing id hit the junkyard. My 92 is just 2 philips screws holding it in place. Im sure over the years it didnt change much so prolly the same. Rear wiper i would sugguest replacing the blade and seeing if that helps first. Hope this helps good luck!

There are companies that plate plastic. It's not unlike the chrome parts in a model kit. Do a Google search and you can likely find some. What they'll charge you, I don't have a clue.
As to the rear wiper, it's likely the wiper arm itself. They can bind up at the riveted joint. If you want to try, soak the joint in penetrating oil and work it back and forth a bunch to see if it loosens up and works better. If it doesn't work, get a new one.

I believe that the chrome grill was only offered on the 2000 XJ Limited (for the 97-2001 series XJ). It may not be all that easy to find one. I am not sure if earlier models offered chrome or if they would be a direct fit.

All great advice! I will suggest a factory approved service manual as well. You'll be glad you did.
