im sure this thread has been covered but I want some new opinions.
I am still new to the jeep thing but I am thinking about permanetly locking my front axle by moving the shift fork over and spacing it so it cant slide out. my question is this......is that really okay to do?? will it affect the steering? will it affect or wear the axle or components??
I had a posi-lok on it since the vacume s*#t never worked all that good and it was a constant headache but now on 3 different ocasions I have had problems with the posi-lok...............what do you guys think??
its a 92 cherokee sport and its a hell of a fun rig to own.

I've never done it on a cherokee but I did do this on my 98 Dodge diesel pickup. I searched all over the internet and could get no answers so I just did it and haven't had any problems at all. My logic is that the newer models do not have the stupid CAD anyway so it really isn't that necessary. I used a 1/2" grade 8 bolt and a bunch of washers to space the fork to the correct position. The only drawback I could find was the fact that my 4wd light no longer works because the switch was driven by the vacuum actuator and the bolt took it's place. I would totally do this mod again and like I said, it has worked flawlessly in an 8500 pound truck with 550 ft. lbs. of torque.
P.S.
One thing you should consider is that if you later install a front locker, steering will be a b%*#& because you don't have hubs that you can unlock. This is really only a good mod for an open diff.

Considering my 94, has no disconnect, I don't see a problem with locking it, I have an aussie locker up front as well, I never could understand why jeep/chrysler made some front axles with the lame vacuum disconnet and some with out
