Default question about power locks

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport

I've had problems with power windows and locks. So, I replaced all the wires in the wire harness that runs into the driver's door, and also the panel in the door with the switches. Now all the windows work but none of the power locks work. When I tested the locks the rods that run from the inside door handle to the latch were not attached to the handle. Should the locks still work with the rods disconnected, or could that be the reason why none of them work?

The locks will work with the rods off.

Check the passenger door lock switch. If that one is not plugged in or bad the locks wont work either.
