Default Question about intake

I am NOT going to do this and is very bad for your engine but i am very curious as to if you took your air box out completely for a short period of time, would it boost your engines performance? To clarify, it would be sucking air right out of the throttle body.

It will be loud, and not much of a performance gain.

So basically aren't you answering your own question in the same sentence...?

NOS is not good for your engine and boosts your performance

couple of the guys we used to drag with that had 65 gto's would get rid of the air filters when they ran down the track so that the ram hood was actually a ram hood.

A shaker hood would actually look pretty BA on a Cherokee.

Just remember all the dirt that's in the air and engine compartment will get into your intake and engine. This means reduced engine life and IMHO stupid.

Actually on my 96 ZJ thats what i did... took all the intake out and stuck a cone filter from autozone right on top... had to trim the bracket for the throttle cables alittle but the hood still shut fine and everything... so i stalled hood louvers for alittle fresh air and it was that way as long as i had it... Doesnt look like it would work on a xj though... i dont think... maybe cut a hole in the hood the same size so it sticks out and build alittle cowl around it... eeww... thats a good idea...

Id say cowl... if it rains or you play in the mud and water then you would just be "scooping" up everything... id do a cowl... water will for the most part shoot by but air should twirl around it... like a cowl undection hood... actually may be more or less for letting hot air out when cold air comes through the radiatior... heck im not sure... but either way more air would be flowing by it on a cowl style setup...
