Alrighty, well after a nice 1/2 day of wheeling that front pinion yoke and bearing sad goodbye on the first real set of rocks I encountered. Front wheel drive was completely lost, but luckily I was just starting to trail so I was able to back up far enough to get off the trail and into the mud to pull the new t-case cover, and front driveshaft. I had to drive on it in two wheel drive to get out and back to camp with all the clunking and clanging and crap like that. Knowing that we had over an hour drive I figured I better pull the axles out just in case something might catch and pull us off the highway so I stopped at the nearest place which happened to be a McDonalds and proceeded to pull the driveshafts out in the parking lot.
Anyway we were free wheeling now and made it home just fine, which was a total bonus, but now I have to figure out how to fix this thing. Its been so hot here and I had some other weekend plans made I didnt get to pull the diff cover off yet. Im praying the the ring and pinion are still good and not ate up. I have no idea about the locker in there its probably toasted, but Im going to need some guidance at what to do to get this thing fixed. below is a pic of what I believe is everything that I need to replace. Can someone help me out here and tell me what i need to do. I dont really have the money to take it to a shop, so im praying I can fix it myself. I believe everything highlighted in red is what I probably need to replace.

Find a local wheeler that knows how to set up gears or take it to a shop.

Replacing the inner and outer bearings will require setting the pinion depth, pinion rotating torque and resetting the backlash.

Since the outer bearing was the problem, is it possible that the inner bearings would be ok? Or does the whole thing need replaced. Most of the shops around here are a bunch of crooks, so I try to do everything myself if you know what I mean. I just hope it didnt destroy the locker in there.

Well if it is the outer bearing can it be done by myself or does the backlash etc.. have to be reset with that as well.

Thanks for all your help. Just trying to get my ducks in a row.

No, just inspect everything very closely before re-assembling the axle.

SeriousOffroad, thanks for the help. Do you sell everything that I would need to fix this, if so send me an email at doubleg@ustl.com with a price. I would rather buy from someone who is helping me out then someone who isnt.

Not really. You can get a new bearing and race for about $25 at your favorite parts house. A new seal will set ya back about $10.

Why did Jeep replace the crush sleeve for shims on later Dana 30's
All the write ups I have been finding talk about the crush sleeve. Almost makes me wish I had one just so I could follow along better.

Im going to attempt fixing this tomorrow. I should have all my parts in by the end of the day, bearings, races, oil slinger, etc.. Can I reuse the shims that are currently on there? Shims are not cheap Geez.
