Question??

I bought a 96xj a few months ago and on the dash near the steering colomn there is a switch that is labeled "extended idle". Does anyone know what the purpose of this is I have pressed it it lights up but no idea what it does? :dunno:

I think you are right, I did some more checking and found that the switch is used for extreme power needs while ideling, also was looking over it and in a few spots they missed with the black paint it looks like state of michigan blue underneath. I think my cherokee was a cop suv at one point! Thats pretty cool! I want to pull a carfax and see who the previous owners were.

It raises the idle up to 1000 rpm so the water pump cools better the engine and the alternator produces more electricity. It uses the same system of the AC.
