I'm sure somebody has done it, but it requires more work than just throwing a transmission in there. You'll need to get the pedal assembly, slave cylinder, master cylinder, fluid reservoir, and computer from the donor Jeep. After that, you might have to make some transmission crossmembers . Then you should be able to rip out the automatic shift lever and replace it with the manual shift lever. More work than you'd think, but I'm sure it's been done.

What about the computer from the donor Jeep too?

x2 I bought my 5 speed Jeep running and driving for $400 and there was nothing wrong with it besides overdue inspection.

I too have a 2 door 5 speed and it's one of the only one's around here. There are plenty of 4 door autos, though. When I was looking for my first car I really wanted a 5 speed XJ, but couldn't find even one. After I sold my truck for $900 I went walking around town looking for cars that didn't look like they were being used anymore and I saw my XJ in someone's driveway with old inspection so I knocked on their door, but no one was home. I tried again after work and they said they were gonna donate to the fire department to demonstrate the Jaws of Life. I cringed when I heard that and talked to the lady's husband, gave him $400, and drove it home the next day. This was right after he got brand new tires on it, had new stainless brakelines installed, and had the rear differential serviced. I'd say I got a good deal.

yep! mine had a plywood back window... bald tires...busted windshiel... didnt run right and no tailights/brake lights... couldnt test drive it but i traded my perfect running lumina anyway cause i noticed the vaccum lines were jacked... made the trade... signed the titles... hooked up the map sensor and drove it home... lol... dude was PO's... a tune up later and som wiring and it was ready to roll... best part was it already had a 96HO motor in it (89)... rebuilt tranny and transfer case

Well, I guess in theory, if you get a complete running one, you can swap over the engine.trans and everything else including the computer. But its still a PITA.

I think you need to start saving some bucks and get the swap if you want this upgrade to come through...
Try to search on Google cause you might find someone interested on a great deal...
