Default PS pump bleeding issue?

99 sport w/4.0. So a few months ago I did the Durango gearbox swap along with a new ps pump. A few days ago I took a hard turn and boom no more ps. Went and bought another pump installed it tonight and got my money back on the first. Both rebuilds from O'Reillys. Well my problem is I can't get this pump bled to save my life! I have cycled the wheel hundreds of times, on the ground, on a jack everything and if you have ever heard one of these pumps with air in them it is extruseating! I finally had it up on a jack cycling the wheels, gave it a few good revs and it stopped. I went to drive it home, about 6 miles and it started screaming every time I stopped at a light. My voltage also drops to around 8-10 volts while it is doing this..... Any ideas?

If your voltage is dropping too the belt is likely slipping.

Are you trying to bleed the system with the jeep running? If you are stop and try to bleed it with the jeep off jack the jeep up and turn wheel from lock to lock checking fluid. Keep fluid level full and all the air should bleed out of the system.

Don't I feel stupid, belt was too loose. I didn't go too tight because of the horror stories about it putting too much pressure on the pulleys.

Tightened belt, no more squeel, no more voltage drop and power steering is back.

Thanks guys.

+1

To properly bleed...................You cycle the wheel from lock-to-lock a bunch before starting the engine.........
