Default Pros & Cons of locker vs welded rear

Are there benefits to having a locker in the rear vs it being welded? It's not a daily driver but is driven to and from where I meet my buddies to rock crawl (10-30 miles avg). My rear is welded now but I'm not against purchasing a locker if there are real advantages. Also, I was told you can't weld the front like the back. Why is that? I do have a locker in the front but it was purchased this way. Thanks.

the advantage a locker has over a welded carrier is that it will open when you are turning, and the advantage of this is deffinately tire wear, and it is much safer to drive on the road because you would slide around corners. also, if the welds happen to break on the spider gears then you will granade your entire rear end because the metal pieces will ruin your ring and pinion. and for the question about welding the front.. i havent heard that you couldn't, lmfao you can do what ever you want, but you have to think that you turn those wheels all the time, and in my opinion the front end takes the biggest beating way over the rear because of all the different turning. i would say stick with the locker up front.

Makes sense on the front. Does the welded rear build more heat than a locker?

to be quite honest with you... im really not sure if the welded gears create more heat but it would make sense because there is more torque being put on there because it will NEVER OPEN, but like i said i am not really sure.
